September 05, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Arnolds Park)– Work on the next phase of the Highway 71 project through the Iowa Great Lakes Corridor is to begin today (Tues.). The Iowa Department of Transportation says this phase will involve more work at several intersections in Arnolds Park and Okoboji. In Arnolds Park that includes the north bound lane from Benit Drive through Broadway Street; Bascom Street, and Ackley Street through Lakeshore Drive. In Okoboji the work in coming weeks will be taking place from just north of the Lake Shore Drive/Gordon Drive intersection to Sanborn Avenue; the east half of Sanborn Avenue and north of Sanborn Avenue to Stakeout Road.

A detour will be in place for northbound traffic from Benit Drive through Broadway Street in Arnolds Park utilizing Broadway Street and Lake Street.

As we reported previously, the causeway between Arnolds Park and Okoboji will be closed to all but emergency traffic for four weeks beginning September 18th.

D.O.T officials say the work this phase will continue for as long as the weather allows.
