Work Kicks Into High Gear Tues. (5/30) On Two Major Road Projects In Estherville

May 26, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– Road construction in Estherville will kick into high gear Tuesday and will continue through the summer. Dakin Schultz of the Iowa Department of Transportation’s regional office in Sioux City says the work will be taking place on Highways 9 and 4 in Estherville. Schultz says it’s the same contractor and crew that was working on Highway 71 through the lakes corridor that will be doing the work in Estherville…

“They’ve got two projects in three different sections. They’ve got the Iowa 9 or affectionately known as half mile hill coming into town from the west. That will be a remove and replace and that will include a detour. I believe that detour is actually looking at the third week of July with lane closures coming right after Memorial Day. And then they’ve got the section just north of Iowa 9, north Iowa 4, so that’s up to 5th Avenue and that will include the detour, in town detour, of Iowa 4 for about seven blocks; and then there’s the stretch that’s a little over a mile or approximately a mile on the south end of town of Iowa 4 from the railroad overhead out to just past the cemetery south, and the same crew’s got that work, so they’d like to get a lot of that work wrapped up before they come back over to the Lakes Area.”

The crew is scheduled to return to the lakes area the day after Labor Day for the next phase of work on Highway 71 in the lakes corridor.
