(Okoboji)– Work on a project to renovate the playground at Speier Park in Okoboji only began recently, but City Administrator Michael Meyers says crews are already making some good progress. He praises the hard work of city crews in removing the old equipment…
“It actually went quite a bit smoother than we actually anticipated with such old playground equipment. We were able to get that removed and they are on their way to new homes really all across Iowa and some of Nebraska, to folks who purchased that old equipment. So that’s on it’s way to a new home and this month, now, we’ve got the contractor coming in to do all the site work and sidewalks and water lines and things of that nature. That process should take about a month and then right after he’s out of there our installer will come in and install the playground equipment, install the surfacing, and then hopefully sometime before Halloween that playground will be open for use.”
The city council Tuesday formally approved a bid of nearly $84,000 for installation of the new playground equipment.
The project is not impacting the shelter house or the basketball, tennis or pickleball courts at Speier Park.
