(Spirit Lake)– After years of planning and fundraising, construction is getting underway on the restoration of a historic shelter house at Mini Wakan State Park on the north shore of Big Spirit Lake.
Joe Ulman of the Spirit Lake Protective Association tells KUOO news ground was broken Monday on the $400,000 project. In addition to restoring the original shelter house built back in the 1930’s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, Ulman says the project will also include work on some amenities… Click here to hear mp3 file
The restoration work is slated for completion by early next summer. Ulman says work on a parking area will then follow. He says that part of the project has an estimated cost of roughly $200,000 to $300,000, bringing the total project cost to roughly $700,000… Click here to hear mp3 file
Ulman says while the million dollar fundraising goal has been successfully concluded, a separate drive to raise money for the endowment continues.
