Woman Accused Of Stealing Thousands Of Dollars In Merchandise From Local Wal-Mart Stores & Re-selling It On-Line

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)—A Sioux Rapids woman has been arrested by the Spencer Police Department on theft charges.

32-year-old Jackie Lynn Peterson is accused of stealing thousands of dollars of merchandise from Wal-Mart stores in Spencer, Spirit Lake and Storm Lake.

A search warrant executed at Peterson’s residence turned up more than 1,500-dollars in additional merchandise alleged to have been stolen.

The investigation started after Wal-Mart Asset Protection personnel informed Spencer Police of the matter. Officers determined Peterson was allegedly selling stolen merchandise, primarily cosmetics, through an eBay account, mostly to an address in India.

Wal-Mart officials are still preparing a video and documentation, but have identified over 10-thousand dollars in merchandise allegedly stolen from the three stores combined.

Peterson was initially charged with theft in the fourth degree, but that’s been amended to theft in the second degree…a class “D” felony…in connection with the alleged thefts from the Spencer store. Authorities say charges are pending against Peterson in Spirit Lake and Storm Lake.
