(Terril)– We’re learning some additional details into a house fire Wednesday in Terril. Fire departments from Terril, Wallingford and Milford were called a little before 2:30 pm to 207 North 4th Street and found smoke coming from the house. Entry was gained and the fire was quickly extinguished. They then ventilated the house and conducted salvage and overhaul operations, while also checking to make sure the fire hadn’t spread anywhere else and was completely out. Officials say no one was home at the time the fire broke out.
Jarrod Fischer, Wallingford Fire Chief and the acting Chief for the Terril Fire Department, says they’re still looking into the possible cause…
“The fire is still under investigation. We’re still looking at a couple of other things. Quite a bit of damage. Red Cross was called to help the family as they’re probably going to need some new items for sure as a lot was destroyed yesterday in the fire.”
He says they do have a good idea as to where the fire started in the house…
“Possibly in the basement down by the electrical box is kind of what Chief Carpenter and myself were looking at yesterday, and all of us. I’m going to try to talk to the homeowner and get a little bit more information this week as soon as I can.”
The house sustained extensive fire and smoke damage. The Red Cross was contacted and the occupants were able to make other temporary living arrangements.
Fischer says he’s grateful to all of the agencies who assisted on the scene…
“We have automatic mutual aid in Terril so any structure fires, fires in the town, you’re going to see Milford Fire Department and Wallingford Fire Department and then from there we’ll definitely call other additional resources depending on what the fire is.”
Fischer says that agreement was amended in August of this year to include ALL fires in the Terril Fire District.
He adds three new members will be joining the Terril Fire Department in November.
