Weekly Tests Of Dickinson County Outdoor Warning Sirens To Resume

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Weekly testing of Dickinson county’s outdoor warning system will resume today (Wed. 3/20) and will continue through the upcoming severe weather season. Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Ehret…(click here for comment.) “Be listening for that. And again if you have a siren nearby and you don’t hear it go off, please let us know. We need to know if they’re working or not and we kind of rely on the public to let us know.”

Sirens will be tested every Wednesday at 12 Noon.

Meanwhile, the number of sirens throughout the county continues to increase…(click here for comment.) “A few years back the county board of supervisors approved a plan to install sirens around the county in the developed areas, things like that. So we’re well underway to getting that accomplished. Also, the cities of West Okoboji and Superior just installed a siren in each of their communities. That means every town in the county now has atleast one siren. Most have two, three or four of them covering their town so that’s been a goal of mine for several years now. I’m glad to see that achieved. We’ll have an additional siren going up this spring down to cover Horseshoe Bend. They do have some camping that goes on down there and some other outdoor activities. After that we’ve got a couple to go on the northwest side of Big Spirit Lake. Then we should have pretty much all of the developed areas of the county pretty well covered.”

Malfunctioning sirens should be reported by contacting either the Dickinson County Communications Center at 336-2525 or Dickinson County Emergency Management at 336-3987.
