(Undated)—Area fire chiefs are reminding the public about the ongoing danger for grassland fires throughout the region.
A number of area fire departments, including Spirit Lake, Milford and Lake Park to name a few, spent most of Saturday afternoon responding to grass fires. In one case, a grass fire spread to a utility pole, setting it on fire as well.
Fire officials say the dead, dry vegetation makes perfect kindling. And until things green up some more and additional rain falls, the fire danger will remain relatively high. Anyone doing any open or controlled burning is highly urged to keep an eye out and take the necessary precautions to keep the fires from going out of control.
No injuries were reported in any of the grass fires Saturday.
