We Have Additional Details On A Barn Fire North Of Lake Park

October 10, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Lake Park)– We have some additional information on a barn fire late Sunday afternoon north of Lake Park, just north of the Iowa-Minnesota border. Lake Park Fire Chief Brandon Ehret tells KUOO news they were called around 4:30 pm to 39263 710th Street in Jackson county…

“They had an old hog facility that was fully engulfed. We called for Lakefield, Round Lake and Spirit Lake to come up for water support. It’s getting hard to find it out in the country with it getting so dry, so we needed tankers. So yeah, the building was fully engulfed when we got there. There was an adjacent, another little facility that was smoking. We worked on getting that put out. We were up there, I don’t know, I think we were back at the station about 6:30 so last night. We got called back this morning for that other building. It was fully involved. We had Lakefield come down and give us a hand with some water. We just let that one finish burning.”

Ehret says they’re unsure as to how the original fire got started…

“I mean there was power to the building but we’re not ruling any possible cause at this point.”

Ehret adds that other than some old farrowing equipment, there wasn’t much else in the structures.

Firefighters were on the scene about two hours both late Sunday and again this (Monday) morning. There were no reports of any injuries.
