(Spencer)– A problem with a wax warmer filled a home with smoke early this (Mon.) morning in Spencer.
Firefighters were called shortly after 1:00 am to 900 2nd Avenue Southeast where they encountered some smoke throughout the home. The residents safely evacuated. Upon investigating firefighters determined the source was a wax warmer which they unplugged and removed from the home. They then ventilated the structure. No injuries were reported.
Officials remind everyone that while wax warmers are much safer than candles and flamed wax melters, that some safety precautions still need to be taken. They say it’s important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use; never leave a wax melter unattended and to turn it off or unplug it when unattended or sleeping; always place it on a noncombustible surface; never place combustible materials near or on top of a wax warmer; and make sure it is out of the reach of children and pets.
Firefighters were on the scene this (Mon.) morning about 20 minutes.
