Waterlogged Old Town Residents Ask Milford Council For Help

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– Waterlogged residents in the old town area just south of Milford again Monday pleaded with the Milford city council to participate in a drainage project with the county.

The county has proposed the project to try to ease a problem with excess groundwater, which continues to infiltrate many basements in the old town area, which lies just outside Milford’s city limits.

The city is being asked to contribute three thousand dollars toward the project, with the county also covering a portion of the cost.

Councilman Don Lamb said he wants assurrance the project would actually take care of the problem. But County Engineer Dan Eckert, who was at Monday’s meeting, stopped short of giving that assurance. Eckert says while the project is intended to divert atleast some of the water away from that area, that it won’t necessarily take care of an already high water table in the area, saying water could continue to get into basements.

Councilman Todd Schillinger said he’s concerned the taxpayers of Milford would be responsible for half of the cost of a project that’s outside of city limits. He wants the county to contribute more to the project. Other council members agreed.
