(Arnolds Park)– The Okoboji Tourism Committee is putting out a call for certified judges for its first annual “Smoke on the Water Barbecue” competition to be held June 22nd and 23rd. It’s looking for individuals in the Iowa Great Lakes who would be interested in becoming certified judges with the Kansas City Barbecue Society.
A Kansas City Barbecue Society Judge Certification training session will be held Saturday, March 10th from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Storm Lake High School in Storm Lake.
KCBS judges are trained in a manner that allows to appropriately judge all types of barbecue. Areas of training will include but are not limited to taste, appearance and texture.
Okoboji Tourism will sponsor a limited number of individuals to take the course in order to judge the local competition in June. Anyone interested should contact the Okoboji Tourism Office at 332-2209 by Wednesday, March 7th.
