(Undated)– Voters in the Sibley-Ocheyedan Community School District overwhelmingly defeated a tax measure in a special election Tuesday. Unofficial results show 398 voted against the measure with only 112 in favor. It would have allowed the district to collect up to $1.34 per $1,000 of assessed valuation over the next 10 years and would have implemented an income surtax of up to 20 percent of a resident’s state income tax. The revenue would have been used for things such as buildings, facility repairs and equipment.
Meanwhile, voters in the Sheldon Community School District Tuesday approved an extension of that district’s physical plant and equipment levy for an additional 10 years not to exceed $1.34 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. 303 voted in favor while 109 were opposed.
