Voter Turnout Tuesday In Dickinson Co. Easily Surpassed That Of Previous Elections

November 09, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– To say the turnout in Tuesday’s election was brisk would be an understatement. Jordan Moyer oversees elections at the Dickinson County Auditor’s Office. She says those who voted early in this election easily rivaled that of previous elections…

“There were 3,136 ballots requested and that’s in person and by mail. We had a few outstanding, I think maybe between 20 and 30 outstanding. We had a total of 3,136 ballots requested for absentee, and 2,303 of those were in person and 833 were by mail. So we ended up counting a little over 3,100 ballots at our absentee board yesterday.”

Moyer says that did not detract at all from those who voted in person Tuesday…

“We had 5,190 people vote at the polls yesterday and with a total we had a total of 8,326 people that, with our totals that voted and that was 56.86 percent of the county.”

And while she doesn’t have specific numbers just yet, Moyer says there was also a lot of same day voter registration taking place Tuesday at the polling locations…

“We had a lot of same day voter registrations with people coming in and wanting to register to vote that same day. And we have our procedures that we have to follow with having a driver’s license and you also need to prove your residency, so making sure we have all of those documents. And so all of our precinct workers who do an amazing job and we appreciate them more than you know, that they were, it was just a very, very, good turnout.”

Moyer says she couldn’t be happier with how things went, adding there were no major issues at all in Dickinson county.
