(Spencer)—A program designed to help veterans transition to life back at home will be offered next month in Spencer.
Spencer Hospital and the Northwest Iowa Area Health Education Center will present the program, titled “Transitions: The War Back Home” on Tuesday, April 9th from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Spencer Hospital. Organizers of the program say it’s intended to address military culture and to increase knowledge and improve practice for civilian healthcare professionals regarding behavioral and mental health of veterans and service members.
Several speakers will be on the program, including representatives of the local veterans administration, the Iowa Army National Guard and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The keynote speaker will be Dan Grinstead who will tell his personal story of being a social worker who enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard at the age of 59, was deployed to Afghanistan, and returned home to help soldiers become citizens again.
Pre-registration for the program is required by contacting Spencer Hospital at (712) 264-6623.
