(Spirit Lake)—A single-vehicle mishap early this (Mon.) morning in which a portion of a vehicle wound up in East Lake Okoboji sent one person to the hospital.
Spirit Lake police say 17-year-old Kiley Cousins of Arnolds Park was driving a 2003 Volkswagon bug westbound in the ouside lane of Highways 9 and 71 in Spirit Lake when she collided with the curb. The vehicle then fishtailed through a grassy area and bike trail, collided with a tree and went down an embankment…coming to rest with its rear in the lake.
A passenger, 18-year-old Kiley Christensen of Spirit Lake, was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare.
$10,000 in damage was estimated to the vehicle.
The crash took place shortly before 1:00 a.m.
