Vehicle Catches Fire In Okoboji Middle School Parking Lot

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A vehicle fire caused some excitement this (Fri.) morning in Arnolds Park.

Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Chief Steve Dulin says firefighters were called to the Okoboji Middle School parking lot around 9:30. Upon arriving he said they found a 1992 Ford Explorer with flames coming out from under the hood. Dulin says the fire was in the process of moving into the passenger compartment before firefighters could get it put out.

Dulin says it appears the blaze started in some electrical wiring on the driver’s side under the hood.

Dulin says they were able to move some surrounding vehicles out of the way, preventing the fire from spreading to them.

No injuries were reported.

Dulin says the driver was backing out of a parking spot when he noticed the smoke, and got out unharmed.

Firefighters were on the scene about a half hour.
