(Spirit Lake)– Another scam alert to pass along. We’ve been hearing reports from residents and even some businesses in the area receiving phone calls from someone purporting to be with their utility provider, claiming you are delinquent in paying your bill and demanding immediate payment. Officials say it’s a scam and another attempt to gain personal information and your bank account data.
If you get such a call, they say you should just hang up.
Officials add that if you do have questions about the status of your account, that you should call your utility provider directly at the number that’s listed on your billing statement.
