Used Cell Phones & Accessories Being Collected To Help Area Soldiers

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– If you have some old cell phones lying around and you’re wondering what to do with them, here’s an idea. You can donate them to a program that helps keep U.S. soldiers abroad more in touch with their families.

Karen Schwaller of the Milford Pioneers 4-H Club tells KUOO news they’re collecting old cell phones and cell phone accessories. She says they will then be taken to a company that recycles them, and in turn, issues a 60-minute phone card for each phone turned in. The cards are then sent to area soldiers who are serving abroad.

Schwaller says the phones may be dropped into specially marked boxes located at Farmers Savings Bank, Buy Rite and St. Joseph Catholic Church…all in Milford.

Schwaller says they collected around 145 phones the last time the club conducted the project a couple of years or so ago. She says they’re hoping to surpass that this time around.
