(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors this (Tues.) morning approved a plan to involve the Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District in the process of updating the county’s long term comprehensive land use plan. Supervisor Steve Clark says it makes sense to have the additional entity involved in the process…
“I think it’s something that as a county it will help the advancement of development in the county without leaving the Sanitary Sewer District in the dark all the time, and here again we’ll know more what the Sanitary Sewer District’s plans are for the future and can coordinate things a little better.”
The supervisors approved a motion to hire William J. Ludwig and Associates of Des Moines. County Zoning Administrator Megan Kardell says that firm will review the county’s existing land use plan, as well as the Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District’s plans, and put together a request for proposals that will be sent out to various firms who specialize in updating and assembling land use plans…
“So he’s going to go through the comp plan and with the RFP basically let us know, hey, we can just simply update the comp plan versus starting completely from scratch and starting over unless he goes through it and agrees that we should be starting completely over. But that’s basically his roles. And then he’s also going to do the sewer study to see where development is possible, where we have our strengths and weaknesses so that way when we send that RFP to either MSA Professionals, or Schneider and Associates or RDG, we’ll send them to all three, and we’ll see what their cost analysis is when it comes back to us. We’ll bring it to the board and then we will move forward.”
Kardell says there’s a possibility RFP’s could be sent to additional firms should they express an interest.
The $24,000 cost for the consultant’s services will be split evenly between the Board of Supervisors, the Dickinson County Planning and Zoning Department and the Sanitary District.
