(Spirit Lake)– Applications are now being taken to assist those looking for help in paying their home heating bills.
Upper Des Moines Opportunity is accepting applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance program now through April 30th, 2010.
Laurie Ruuf of the Spirit Lake UDMO office says the program is not designed to pay households total energy costs, but is for heating costs only.
The program provides supplemental assistance based on total household income, household size, dwelling type, and type of heating fuel…among others.
Ruuf says households who do not meet the income guidelines may still qualify through the medical waiver component. Medical expenses must be documented, paid and be non-reimbursable.
Those who have already applied and have been approved for this winter season cannot re-apply.
