(Spirit Lake)– Upper Des Moines Opportunity of Dickinson County is encouraging families to sign up for the Adopt a Family Program. Outreach Specialist Jason Peterson explains…
“Folks sign up with us, anybody that’s eligible for our services is also eligible for this program. We’ve got a form that they fill out with the children’s age and what they are wanting for Christmas in very general terms and then we turn around find community partners or individuals who then sponsor that family and provide those gifts. We have a lot of sponsors right now who are calling us looking to help those families. What we don’t have right now is a lot of families. We have a couple or three coming in every day, but we’ve got a longer list of folks who are looking to adopt. So if you are eligible for our services or if you know of somebody who you think might be eligible for our services, please have them give us a call at 336-1112 and we can get them set up.”
He adds that the application process is fairly easy…
“We have a service application that anybody who uses our services fills out and we follow federal income guidelines for our services, but after that you’re eligible for all of our services. Adopt A Family is what we’re emphasizing right now. We also do Coats for Kids. Maybe you’re interested in providing a few coats, we do need some of those. But it’s a simple application process. It’s something we can even mail to you if you prefer. Just fill that out and we’ll get you into our system and then you’re eligible for all of our services.”
