(Des Moines)– New tariffs on imported goods from Canada and Mexico are effective starting today. Republican Iowa US Senator Chuck Grassley says he’ll wait and see how it plays out…
“I’m still a free and fair trader. The president won the election based on the fact he was going to impose tariffs. Maybe it will work and get people to the negotiating table. If he’s successful I’ll say amen and if he’s not successful I’ll say I told you so.”
Grassley says he is concerned over the potential impact on pork producers…
“We’re hearing from pork producers that import baby pigs that are farrowed in Canada coming in probably almost daily. That could have an impact on the profitability of pork production.”
Both Canada and Mexico are responding with retaliatory tariffs on goods from the U.S coming into those countries.
