(Des Moines)– The Iowa Finance Authority has awarded more than $1.3 million to assist homelessness prevention efforts throughout the state.
Two entities in northwest Iowa are among those receiving funding. Upper Des Moines Opportunity, which serves Buena Vista, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Palo Alto and Pocahontas counties is getting $80,600. Family Crisis Centers, which serves Cherokee, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola, Plymouth and Sioux counties will be receiving $65,000.
The funding is through the new Iowa Homelessness Prevention Fund. It can be used for things such as short-term financial assistance for landlords, utility service providers or other third-parties along with landlord mediation, housing navigation services and case management.
Awards were presented to partner agencies that participated in the pilot program.
