(Washington, D.C.)– Two northwest Iowa airports have been awarded federal funding to assist with land purchases.
The Sioux County Airport Authority was awarded slightly more than $1.9 million while the Storm Lake Municipal Airport will receive slightly more than $944,000.
The money awarded to the Sioux County Regional Airport Authority will be used to purchase additional land for a new airport. The funds awarded to the Storm Lake Airport will be used to aquire land for approaches to enhance approach protection.
The funds are through the U.S. Department of Transportation.
U.S. Senator Tom Harkin, a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and the subcommittee that funds the D.O.T, announced the grants Tuesday.
