Two Men Face Charges In Theft Of Scrap Metal & Copper

(Spencer)– Two Spencer men face charges in connection with some recent thefts of copper and scrap iron in the area.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy Wednesday evening pulled over a vehicle with two suspects in it matching the descriptions
of some suspects seen leaving a business in the 1200 block of Highway 18, where the thefts had taken place.

Upon investigating the deputy determined the suspects, 48-year-old Thomas Carney and 50-year-old Roger Rouse both of Spencer, had allegedly been involved in the theft of about 1,200 pounds of copper wire from the business. The wire is valued at about $1,800.

Carney was arrested and charged with theft in the second degree, a class “D” felony; trespassing…a serious misdemeanor; and no insurance. Rouse was arrested and charged with theft in the second degree and trespassing.

Both men were being held in the Clay county jail on bond of $5,000 each.

Clay County Sheriff Randy Krukow tells KUOO news the investigation is ongoing and that more arrests are possible.
