(Milford)– Two fires within hours of each other Tuesday kept the Milford Fire Department on the run.
The first call was to 2043 250th Avenue where a fire had broken out near a stove in a shop building. Upon arriving firefighters found an area of embers in the ceiling around the chimney that had burned. Firefighters removed some burning insulation and framing and wet down the surrounding area to which the fire and damage were contained.
The owner of the structure reported some electrical problems shorly before discovering the fire. Upon investigating, it was determined the fire was the result of an electrical wire which had the insulation melted off it after coming in contact with the hot metal chimney. The metal then caused the wire to arc.
Firefighters were on the scene a little more than an hour Tuesday morning.
The other call came in around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Milford firefighters were called to 2571 185th Street for a report of a pickup on fire next to a garage.
Upon arriving firefighters found a 1999 Chevrolet 1500 pickup fully engulfed. Firefighters quickly put it out.
The owner of the vehicle stated it wouldn’t start and that he had attached a battery charger to it. About a half-hour later he said he heard the horn sounding and looked out and discovered the vehicle was on fire and called 911.
Firefighters were on the scene about an hour.
No injuries were reported in either blaze.
