July 29, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Wallingford)– There was a close call Sunday evening on the West Fork of the Des Moines River north of Wallingford.

According to Wallingford Fire and Emergency Medical Services, crews were called a little before 10:30 pm after getting a report of a person on a tube in the river hung up in debris. Another person involved was able to get to shore, walked to Wallingford, and called 911. Crews responded to Petersen Access just east of Wallingford and launched rescue equipment and a drone. The person was located a short time later, was brought safely to shore, and was evaluated by medical personnel.

The Arnolds Park-Okoboji Water Rescue and Dive Team was also activated but was canceled after the victim was located.
