(Undated)– A reminder to play it safe this (Tues.) evening as we ring in the new year. Trooper Kevin Krull of the Iowa State Patrol Post Six office says if you’re planning to party, you need to have a designated driver, call a taxi or ride service, or contact a sober friend or family member…
“I would rather have somebody call me up in the middle of the night or early morning or late at night saying hey, can you come get me? I think I’ve had too much to drink. Or I’m not safe to drive right now. Can you come give me a ride? I would much rather have that phone call rather than the phone call saying I killed somebody or I’m in jail, can you help me get out of jail or can you pick me up out of jail tomorrow. And I would venture to say that there’s probably not too many people in the United States, but more importantly northwest Iowa, that don’t have at least one or two of those people that would do the same.”
Krull says the State Patrol and other law enforcement entities will have additional officers on the road over the New Year’s holiday enforcing seatbelt laws and looking for those driving under the influence or those who are otherwise impaired.
