(Algona)– Trial for a man accused of fatally shooting an Algona police officer will be held in Dickinson county after a judge Tuesday granted a change of venue. Kyle Ricke is charged with 1st degree murder in the September 2023 death of Kevin Cram.
Ricke’s attorneys sought to have the trial moved out of Kossuth county in late April arguing pretrial publicity would make it impossible to seat an impartial jury in that county. The state didn’t contest the motion for a change of venue but stated they wanted it held in a county with demographics similar to those in Kossuth county, and that it be held within a reasonable distance for travel purposes. Judge Nancy Whittenburg’s order moving the trial to Dickinson county states that Dickinson county meets that criteria.
Trial for Ricke is scheduled to start June 25th.
