Transportation Commission Awards Funding For Garlock Slough Trail Project

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)– The Iowa Transportation Commission today (Tues.) awarded funding for 11 recreational trails in Iowa, including one in the Iowa Great Lakes.

The funding is through the State Recreational Trails Program. It was created in 1988 to establish recreational trails throughout the state. Funding is available to cities, counties, state agencies and non-profit organizations through an annual application-based program.

Locally, the city of West Okoboji and the Dickinson County Trails Board were awarded 490,162-dollars for the Garlock Slough Trail project, southwest of West Lake Okoboji. It will connect with a trail along the west side of West Lake Okoboji.
