(Mallard)—A traffic stop early Tuesday in Palo Alto county resulted in weapons charges being filed against a Mallard man.
Deputies say the stop was conducted around 2:20 a.m. at the intersection of 480th Street and Highway 4 north of Mallard. They say the driver managed to flee the vehicle by the time they could get to it. Deputies with the Palo Alto and Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office and a K-9 unit conducted a search for the driver. A little more than an hour later, they located the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Dean Anderson of Mallard. He was arrested and booked into the Palo Alto county jail on a charge of interference with official acts…a simple misdemeanor.
Upon further investigation, deputies determined Anderson was allegedly in possession of multiple firearms while being under the influence. That resulted in an additional charge of unlawful carrying of weapons…an aggravated misdemeanor…being filed against Anderson.
Authorities say the incident remains under investigation.
The Palo Alto and Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Offices were assisted by the Emmetsburg Police Department.
