(Spencer)—A Sioux Rapids man faces drug charges following a traffic stop Sunday for an equipment violation.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy made the stop around 5:00 p.m. on Highway 71 at the intersection with 485th Street. Upon investigating it was discovered the driver, 29-year-old San Juan Castro of Sioux Rapids, was supposed to have an ignition interlock device installed on his vehicle, and did not. Deputies also learned Castro’s driver’s license had been revoked for that same reason.
Deputies also learned a female passenger in the vehicle, Amber Kay Scott, was wanted on an active warrant out of O’Brien county. She was transported to the O’Brien county line and turned over to a deputy.
A subsequent inventory of the vehicle resulted in authorities finding what’s alleged to be a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Castro was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, driving while revoked and failure to file SR-22 insurance. He was taken to the Buena Vista county jail and was being held for Clay county.
