Tornado Clean-up Continues In Sibley Area

November 22, 2014

(Sibley)– The clean up continues from last weekend’s tornadoes in the Sibley area.

Hardest hit was an area west and south of Sibley. That’s where volunteers are being requested to help pick up debris that’s scattered across fields.

Kristine Zylstra’s brother, Tommy Zylstra, farms in that area. Kristine tells KUOO news they and others have numerous fields that need to be cleaned up. She says they’re finding everything from boards to sheet metal.

Kristine says not a building was left on her brother’s and a neighbor’s farms. In addition, she says some of the crops in that area were leveled, leaving fields which were once green now black.

Kristine says fortunately her brother wasn’t home the tornado hit last weekend and wasn’t hurt. She says his neighbors across the road weren’t as lucky as they sustained minor injuries. Krisine adds that based on the extent of the damage, it’s a wonder nobody was killed.

Anyone who can help with the clean-up is asked to contact Kristine Zylstra at (515) 450-1548 or Tommy Zylstra at (612) 810-1082. Both are cell phone numbers.

Volunteers are asked to bring bug spray and sunscreen with them.
