The tragic death of a 22-month old girl in the Iowa Great Lakes last month has a special group of people campaigning this Labor Day weekend to bring awareness to the dangers of citronella oil and household chemicals. Bonnie Wells of Spirit Lake is leading the charge and will be making her way through camp sites and other hot spots handing out flyers that share the story of how she lost her young daughter. Citronella oil is commonly used for Tiki Torches, which are found at most backyard parties and camp sites to keep away insects. If ingested, the chemical may be aspirated and potentially fatal. The flyers hammer home that fact, and remind parents to keep harmful chemicals in a safe, secure location. Wells also points out that the campaigning effort on “Natty’s Day” would not have been possible without the support of one very caring agency…
