(Arnolds Park)– Registrations for some U of O Winter Games events continues, while other events are already full. Blain Andera, President and CEO of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce says it’s important to sign up as soon as possible for those events that still do have openings…
“Registration is open yet for the 5K fun run. That one does not have a max but if you want a t-shirt you need to get registered very, very soon. Broomball, which is sponsored by MHR Insurance, that’s open. Flag football sponsored by Parks Marina, Hammerschlagen sponsored by West O Beer…that will be at West O Beer this year, and the softball at The Ritz sponsored by The Ritz. Cribbage is open again. We weren’t going to have the Cribbage Tournament this year but someone stepped up and is going to help with that with staffing that and running that, so the Cribbage Tournament is open. Ruthven Locker At The Lakes Chili Cookoff, get your chili mug in advance. That’s from 5:00 to 7:00 on Friday evening of Winter Games, and then the Chocolate Classic sponsored by Mary Lynn Ingvall.”
And as we’ve reported previously, the giant kites will be back this year, with a bit of a twist…
“They’ll start setting the kites up on Thursday, run them all day Friday and Saturday, weather permitting, and looking at over 100 kites this year. These are huge, huge, kites. People come from all over the world, actually, to come fly these. There’s professional kite pilots that come in. Something new this year, after the Bank Midwest Extravaganza where we do the Burning of the Greens, the fireworks will be shot off and we’re going to have some lighted, some lit up kites, as well out there. Night kites. It’s going to be fantastic.”
