(Undated)– Thunderstorms this past weekend brought some badly needed rain to the region. Amounts, however, varied quite a bite across the area, ranging from just over an inch here at the KUOO studios in Spirit Lake to as much as nearly 8 to 10 inches in portions of Sioux county, where flooding occurred.
A tornado also touched down Saturday afternoon about two and-a-half miles southwest of Sioux Center. The touchdown occurred in an open field and there were no immediate reports of any structural damage or injuries.
Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for Sioux county providing grants up to $5,000 for households with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Funds are available for home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food and temporary housing expenses. Affected Sioux county residents are also eligible the Disaster Case Advocacy program.
The National Weather service says additional rain chances are in the forecast as we head through the week with below normal temperatures expected for the most part.
