This Year’s OEI Described As Being Another Big Success

September 20, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– This year’s Okoboji Entrepreneurial Institute held in August is described as being another big success. Alyssa Petersen of the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation, which puts on the event, says 28 students from six Iowa universities participated this year…

“The first couple of mornings they did some speed coaching sessions. I like to say it’s like speed dating but you’re talking about your business ideas with a business professional. So they sit one-on-one with these individuals from our area, OEI alumni that came back, faculty members that would just listen to their ideas and try to give them feedback. Maybe it was a marketing professional that could help them with customer discovery or thinking about their marketing, that sort of thing. We also then the first couple of afternoons they went out and did some local business visits.”

She says OEI students were also involved in a community service project that week that benefited flood victims in Spencer…

“They had a scavenger hunt and were on small teams to try and figure out what would be the most efficient route or who would be the fastest to gather supplies that we then donated to the distribution center in Spencer.”

This marked the 18th year for the Okoboji Entrepreneurial Institute.
