There’s Some Updated Info. On Lake Levels To Pass Along

June 05, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– We some new updates on water levels in the Iowa Great Lakes. As of about mid-morning today (Wed.), Big Spirit Lake was at 15.50 feet, which is down from 15.52 feet that was recorded a little after 1:00 am this (Wed.) morning. The emergency 5 mph rule on Big Spirit goes into effect at 16 feet.

The levels of the Okoboji’s appear to still be going up. As of mid-morning that measurement was at 5.69 feet. The emergency 5 mph rule on the Okoboji’s is triggered at 6.2 feet.

Even though we have not reached the threshold for the emergency 5 mph rule, officials are urging boaters to be considerate with the high water levels. The water is up even with many docks and is even starting to go over some. Officials say there is also concern over wave action due to the gusty wind that’s in the forecast over the next several days.
