(Spencer)– There will be a change in leadership in Spencer after this November’s election. Mayor Steve Bomgaars is announcing he will not seek another term. Bomgaars has served two terms as Spencer Mayor. In a statement, Bomgaars says it has truly been an honor and a privilege to represent the people of Spencer, his hometown, the past three and-a-half years. Bomgaars says it’s a critical time in the city’s history, as it continues to recover from last year’s historic flood.
Spencer city councilman Donavon Wunschel, who has represented the city’s 4th ward since 2019, has announced his candidacy for Mayor, and Bomgaars says Wunschel has his full support. Wunschel says if elected he’ll build on existing momentum for Spencer’s recovery and progress.
