(Emmetsburg)– What started out Monday evening as an investigation into a theft from an Estherville convenience store ended up with a suspect being taken into custody in Palo Alto county following a pursuit on Highway 18 that went through Ruthven headed east. The suspect vehicle then turned and went back west through Ruthven where it appeared it was going to deliberately strike another vehicle that had stopped on the shoulder. Concerned over the safety of those in the parked vehicle, the deputy drove his patrol vehicle into the rear of the suspect vehicle, causing it to go into the ditch where it came to rest. The female driver then tried to get into another vehicle that was stopped at the intersection. The deputy then made contact with the woman, identified as 34-year-old Sierra Day of Nevis, Minnesota. She was charged with eluding along with several drug-related offenses, attempted burglary in the 3rd degree, assault on persons in certain occupations, interference with official acts, and numerous traffic-related offenses. Items taken in the theft in Estherville were also recovered from the vehicle.
Authorities then obtained and executed a search warrant resulting in them finding items from a burglary that occurred earlier the same day in Minnehaha county, South Dakota.
