(Arnolds Park)– The votes are in and we now know who the cheerleaders will be for this year’s University of Okoboji Winter Games. Morgan Strauss of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce thanks those who took the time to vote in person or online…
“We had over a thousand votes this year with 27 nominees so we had another great bunch nominated for the University of Okoboji cheerleaders. We had probably 25 people stop into our office which is a record year since I’ve been here. People love to stop in and vote the old school way but like I said we had over a thousand online votes as well, so thank goodness for that technology.”
For the second year in a row, instead of eight, there will be nine cheerleaders once again due to a tie vote…
“It’s so crazy. Blain and I looked at each other last night when we were putting in the votes and we go, oh my gosh! How, what are the odds of this? We’re excited to have another great group. We’re excited to have a little extra fun so that’s what we’re calling it.”
This year’s cheerleaders are Emily Boettcher, Josh Carr, Nicole Evans, Michael Jensen, Nick Plueger, Krista Stafford, Krista and Trevor Smith, and Andy Wolf. Strauss says their official duties start already next week…
“We’ll do an orientation, we have our Alumni Cheerleader Dinner, and then they really are present at all of those events starting with the Battle of the Bar Tenders on Thursday, and then our Chili Cook-off on Friday. You can truly see them at all of the events on Saturday. So they’re just there to keep morale high, cheer on Okoboji and just really kick off and have a great weekend for everyone.”
