(Whapeton) When you’re driving to your destination in Dickinson county you probably don’t think about what is planted in roadside ditches but Tanner Bouchard, who is the Dickinson County Weed Commissioner and the Roadside Vegetation Manager, says it’s something that is very important.
“Its what our county is kind of ya know, known for is our watershed and when a county this flat our roadside and our ditches is where our water ends up before it goes into our lakes so treating those right of ways the best we can and making sure that we put those into native plants and that we control our erosion in there before it gets to the lakes is definitely crucial for keeping our lakes clean, in this county especially.”
Bouchard will be the featured speaker at the Iowa Lakeside Lab Speaker series on Tuesday night which is held at Mahan Hall on the Lakeside Lab campus in Whatpeton. Bouchard gives a brief overview of what you can expect.
“So I will be there talking a little bit about what all we tackle on a yearly basis. I’ll probably also dive into a little bit about like all of our job duties. Like you said I work as the roadside vegetation manager . I’m also the county weed commissioner so I have a bunch of different duties throughout the year and I’m kind of going to be explaining why we do some of them, how we do some of them and what the end goal is.”
This talk will start at 7pm tonight and is free and open to the public. If you would like to hear the full interview with Tanner Bouchard you can find it at the end of this story which will be under the news tab at exploreokoboji.com
