The 7 Sons to rock The Roof Garden Ballroom September 2

September 01, 2022 Becky Thoreson

(Arnolds Park)-The 7 Sons have stepped up to headline the concert Friday night after The Fabulous Flippers had to cancel their appearance due to a medical problem. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

The 7 Sons will return to the Roof Garden Ballroom Friday night. The band was very popular in the 1960s, and has been inducted into both The Iowa and South Dakota Rock Halls of Fame.
Lead Vocalist Ed Wade says the band loves returning to The Iowa Great Lakes. “Well, we always look at this as a blessing, ok, the opportunity to perform together again, and also, we’ve kind of fallen in love with this town. It makes a lot of sense to us to be here to perform because last time they made us feel very welcome.”
Bassist Rick Knobe says the group has deep roots in the area, having recorded their first record at IGL Studios. “Our first record we recorded, we did down here at IGL Studios in Milford. John Senn, the late great John Senn was the guy. Our leader, Rick Mellor, wrote this little ditty, it was kind of a Lovin’ Spoonful take off called, Don’t You Dare Say No. I think we made #97 on the Billboard Hot 100 for awhile, and that was extremely popular in this area at that time. Then I left the band and some other guys came on and then the band went off and did several more recordings.”
The band will be joined by members of The Fabulous Flippers at Friday night’s performance which starts at 7:30 at The Roof Garden Ballroom.
