(Spirit Lake)– Testimony concluded Wednesday in the 1st degree murder trial of Kyle Ricke, accused in the fatal shooting in September of last year of Algona police officer Kevin Cram.
Evan Thompson of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation testified that during an interview, Ricke told him he blacked out at the time of the shooting and couldn’t remember what happened at the time of the incident, but remembered events on both sides of that.
Dr. Jacob Smith of the State Medical Examiner’s Office testified Cram was shot three times in the head, with one of the bullets lodging behind his right eye, in the brainstem.
The prosecution then rested its case. The defense also rested without calling any witnesses. Ricke declined to testify on his own behalf.
Closing arguments get underway this (Thurs.) morning followed by jury instructions. Deliberations will then follow.
