Temporary FEMA Mobile Housing Site In Spencer Removed

March 20, 2026

(Spencer)– A temporary mobile housing site at the North Y on the north side of Spencer is no more.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, established the site following the 2024 flood to provide housing to residents who lost their homes in the disaster. City Manager Kevin Robinson gave an update at Monday’s City Council meeting…

“All of the pavement, plumbing, sites that the mobile units were on, are gone. It’s back to original grade.”

Robinson says there’s a narrative in the community the city doesn’t want mobile housing developments. He says that isn’t the case…

“So the city of Spencer very much supports mobile housing. We want to see more mobile housing. We were hopeful that FEMA would pick a location that we would be able to keep that infrastructure in place and just use it permanently, but that’s not the case in this disaster recovery. So just wanted to touch on that.”

Robinson says the city showed FEMA seven different sites for temporary mobile housing following the flood but with the exception of the one at the North Y, they were lacking immediate availability to utilities.
