(Spirit Lake)– They’re at the front line when it comes to getting hus help in times of emergency. We’re talking about law enforcement dispatchers. This is National Telecommunications Week…a time to pay tribute to those responsible for getting us help during times of crisis.
Jarrod Fischer is Head Dispatcher at the Dickinson County Communications Center. He’s worked as a dispatcher for the county since 1999. Fischer tells KUOO news it’s a job that requires a lot of specialized training. And he says it isn’t for everyone…Click here for comment from Jarrod Fischer

In addition to Fischer and Frey, five other people are on the dispatch staff at the Dickinson County Communications Center, including Richard Zalabowski, Marianne Lynch, Alysha Harlow, Andy Van Schepen and Teresa Eakin.
The proper use of 911 is another message dispatchers are relaying during the week. We’ll have more on that in upcoming newscasts.
