(Swea City)—Residents of one northern Iowa city are being told to boil their drinking water after a pump malfunctioned.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources issued the boil advisory Tuesday evening for Swea City.
Officials say the malfunctioning pump may have resulted in a drop in water pressure, which could allow bacteria to enter the water. They say it happened while the city was cleaning its water tower.
Swea City residents are being told that as a precaution, it’s recommended they boil water used for drinking and cooking, or use bottled water, until tests come back clean.
