(Spencer)– A report of suspicious activity in Everly last week landed several people in jail on various charges.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it stems from a report of suspicious activity at 109 East 2nd Street in Everly where a vehicle had pulled into a yard and the occupants got out and changed places.
Upon arriving, a deputy determined that Alan Goetz of Emmetsburg and Thomas Ferguson of Graettinger had changed places as they mey the deputy and got spooked as Goetz had a barred driver’s license. Goetz was then placed under arrest.
Upon further investigation, the deputy discovered what’s alleged to be drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Carlos Wahl of Ringsted was then placed under arrest. Goetz and Wahl were both transported to the Clay county jail.
Upon investigation at the jail, it was determined that Goetz, Ferguson, Wahl and Heather Romer of Spencer, a female passenger, had allegedly lied to the deputy about Goetz being the driver. Instead, the deputy determined it was Wahl that had allegedly been driving and had pulled over after meeting the deputy because he had allegedly been drinking and was driving with a suspended license.
Ferguson and Romer were arrested and charged with interference with official acts. Goetz was additionally charged with interference with official acts.
A field sobriety test indicated Wahl had allegedly been operating while intoxicated. He was charged with operating while intoxicated…first offense; possession of drug paraphernalia; driving under suspension; interference with official acts and no proof of insurance.
