(Spencer)—An investigation Friday into a report of suspicious activity in area of Clay county known as “Dead Horse Canyon” resulted in several drug and alcohol-related arrests.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy made contact with a 17-year-old female juvenile who was allegedly in possession of drug paraphermalia and marijuana. She was placed under arrest.
A short time later, a deputy made contact with three people walking out of a wooded area. Deputies say one of them, 19-year-old Carly Wilcox of Spencer, was allegedly carrying a bottle of wine. A deputy also made contact with 20-year-old Mitchell Houchins of Spencer who was allegedly found to be in possession of marijuana. Houchins was placed under arrest; Wilcox was detained.
Upon further investigation authorities determined underage drinking was allegedly going on in the woods by a few more people. Deputies and troopers with the Iowa State Patrol made contact with three subjects. They also found what’s alleged to be marijuana in a cup holder in a chair as well as in two backpacks, one of which allegedly contained several small baggies of the substance.
A 17-year-old female was cited in juvenile court for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance…marijuana. She was released to the custody of a parent. Wilcox was cited for underage alcohol possession and was released. Houchins was charged with possession of a controlled substance…marijuana and was being held pending an initial court appearance. A 17-year-old male juvenile was cited for underage alcohol possession, possession of a controlled substance…marijuana; and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. He was released to the custody of a parent.
